Heliohebes, Oops These special Veronicas are a great addition to many gardens.

Check out NZPCN NZ Plant Conservation Network, a great website for natives

This smaller (60cm) shrub is a light, airy evergreen with grass green foliage lined in maroon. In late spring to summer branches extend above the plant and yield impressive small 30cm panicles of dark purple pink buds that open to light lavender. Due to the fact that the inflorescence opens sequentially and the flowers are so tightly packed it looks all the world like some exotic double. It's an outstanding showy effect, loved by pollinators. Full sun or part shade or even facing south on a building or under a sparse tree, rich to average soil with regular irrigation .

Laid out cut flower image info: First bloom is a real species lilac, 2 is a species Heliohebe haulkeana or now more correctly the genus veronica , 3 is V. hulkeana ssp evestita Lena 4 is a 'Hagley' cultivar, 5 is Lester's cultivar, 6 is V. lavaudiana.  V. raoulii and Fairfieldii  are missing from the lineup. Any more out there?  I managed to put the little vases in a different order.
