Saxifraga hostii

Forms a mat of handsome, lime-encrusted rosettes of strap-shaped, slightly recurving, about 5cm long leaves with blunt toothing. Over time this form makes a conical mound. Flower stems up to 30cm high carrying panicles of numerous plain or red-spotted, it hasn't flowered for me but it has creamy-white ones when it does. Tends to have dead leaves which are prominent of course round each rosette. I guess you could groom it, but I thin k it is natural looking.  I'm into that.  Occurs in the eastern calcareous Alps in Italy, Austria and Yugoslavia.
