Raoulia hectorii

Scabweed. Has grey-blue leaves so small the plant appears like a velvety mould creeping over gritty soil, soft to touch,( ie not a hard mat), powdered with minute yellow flowers in spring. I have it as a layer of grey under my special plants in my rock garden in large swathes, celmisias, miniature manuka, bulbinellas and others pop through happily… Ideal trough plant. Protect from excessive winter wet as portions can die back. One way is to provide a layer of 5mm chip or sand. Ensure free draining  soil. Easy and hardy, drought tolerant once established.
