Pyrenean-violet. The sight of them all over cliffs on the Los Picos Euroa was a sight to behold, facing north (cool side) in creces where they do not suffer from winter wet but do secure moisture during their growing season. Also in the Pyrenees. It is a rosette-forming evergreen perennial growing to 10 cm high by 20 cm wide, with oval, crinkled leaves. Five-petalled purple flowers with prominent yellow anthers appear on leafless stems in spring. It has the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit.
This plant is known as a resurrection plant. Amazing if you look it up. It can survive dryimg out, completly, but don't try it until you have lots to experiment on.
I have mine in a trough facing east under the eaves and it flowers every year. Also in a spot facing west where it grows well but doesn't flower as well. It is very slow growing. Found in white and purple. I haven;t noted which colored ones I propagated! So slow to propagate from leaf cuttings.
