A vigorous and easily grown Candelabra Primula from Bhutan, Szechuan and Yunnan where it is found in damp, humus rich soils. It has laxly held, wrinkly green leaves. The flowering stems are slender but tall to 80cm and farinose at the nodes. One of the first Candelabra Primula to flower in the garden, from early November onwards for a long display. Candelabra primulas have tiers of loose flowers, similar to P.bulleyana, being red in bud, opening apricot orange in 2 to 5 whorls. Fragrant. For moisture retentive soils in partial shade or a marginal situation. In groups, self seeding. Shady borders and near ponds. Moist but not waterlogged. More moisture and water retentive soils with plenty of humus means that more sun can be tolerated.
It is suitable for growing in pots, but only if watered regularly.
