Drop dead gorgeous for sun and rocks. Potentillas "rock" and this one is the BEST!

The Dolomite or Shining Cinquefoil thrives exclusively on basic rock types. It is a classic calcicole, meaning it natively inhabits calcareous (lime-based) and dolomitic rock crevices, cliffs, and screes. The solid mats of trefoiled silvery foliage are attractive, the loveliest of its type and when it flowers for you with its large rose/pink flowers in December it is amazing.

Grow in gravelly soils or between stones and give it some lime if you can, but not essential. The seed was originally from the Dolomites.  Sun and poor soil preferred.

It can be lost in cold wet winters, I lost all my sales plants in my shade house in winter which was tragic. All due to too little knowledge. So if you are in cold, damp and /or frosty spots, protect from the worst of the winter wet by planting in the sun and in excellent drainage or in a pot inside until you have more of it to spread about. If you think it is a bit unusual for a mountain plant to dislike the cold, remember the true alpines are under protective snow all winter. It might be jolly cold but it isn't damp and freezing
