Pretty leaves and slowly creeping along to make a vibrantly coloured carpet.
The shrubby milkwort is a lovely hardy plants which like ericaceous conditions. It spread slowly by runners. What looks like tiny butterflies are made of two inner two sepals or wings are upright and bright cerise pink, and the lower keels are yellow. It is native to the Alps and the mountains of west-central Europe. It was known to be grown in cultivation in about 1658 It has the RHS Award of Garden Merit. Up to 10 cm high and after many years it may reach 30cm wide. Great in the rock garden or troughs. A rock garden gem which is a little different. Sunny positions and a fertile gritty soil preferred.
