The shrubby milkwort is a lovely hardy plant which likes ericaceous conditions. It spread slowly by runners. The inner two sepals or wings are upright and white, whereas the lower keels are yellow, aging to brownish-red. It is native to the Alps and the mountains of west-central Europe. It was known to be grown in cultivation in about 1658 It has the RHS Award of Garden Merit. Up to 12 cm high and after many years it may reach 50cm wide. Great in the rock garden or troughs.
