Another lovely addition to the range of grasses available. Bowles’s golden grass grows very successfully in shady borders under camellias or shrubs and trees. Planted in several informal drifts it looks great. In the summer it produces tiny flowers on branching stems in a lemony spray above the foliage. The bright foliage is a welcome contrast to the darker browns of autumn leaves and wet soil. Non-running clumps of soft foliage, bright yellow in spring and early summer, making patches of sunlight in shady places. Full sun if not overly droughty. Many fine stems support a cloud of tiny golden flower-like beads, in early summer. Lastly it is easy care. Simply shear or 'mow' whenever you think it might need it. It also comes true from seed despite being a cultivar. Also you can use cuttings and divisions to spread it about. Perfect for a laid back wild-look garden. Quite a bit of this information is purloined from the Dunedin Botanic Gardens, including a lovely screen shot from their website. Lots of good ideas and information can be gleaned by the keen designer with plants and high brow gardener by browsing their posts. 40cm high plus flowers, 30 cm spread.
