Weed supressing and good looking ground cover.
Another great addition to the arsenal of "grasses" available in New Zealand. This one (a rush) makes a perfect ground cover. 40cm shade or part shade flowers are a tracery of florets which are pretty enough. The pale margin to the leaves is the best feature. Under the ground, a rhizome that forms a slet. It does not grow quickly, so it is easy to keep in check. I have had mine in the same spot, without getting huge for 20 years. Fine in dry shade which makes it useful. From European through to Asia, forest clearings.
Perfect with hostas, under pieris , rhododendrons etc. |
