Easy growing and very pretty, adaptable.
| Native. Buried, pale, wiry rhizomes. The older leaves usually diffusely brown-pigmented, hairy to densely silvery-hairy. Green buttons. Easy and pretty in the garden as a nice small ground cover. Part sun, sun or part shade. Good drainage as from upland and river sites on drier ground, often amongst tussocks. Not as long lived as L. dioica (needs it moist and more shaded) or L. squalida subspecies mediana. (a tough alternative ground cover). Platt's black is a version selected for its dark colour. It is not good at persisiting. |
