Leptinella filiformis - small form

Very rare in the wild. Extinct in all wild locations except one Clarence valley site. In this remaining wild population it lives in mostly open areas of loess substrate which are muddy in winter but baked dry in summer. A tough and lovely plant to use us a delicate mat through which treasures can emerge for example tiny bulbs, small native shrubs such as twisted kowhai in a  bonsai arrangement or dwarf willow. It does not tolerate competition from grass or weeds. Happy in sun or part shade, tolerant of drought and moisture. Excellent in and over walls, crevices, rock gardens and troughs. Also useful between stepping stones if you plant in a weed free situation. 1 cm tall.
