ritically endangered, yet readily available to us.
An annual climbing plant. From Turkey, a rare, critically endangered, bicoloured pea only found near Antalya. Interestingly according to wikipedia; their entire wild population is restricted to an area of 2 km2 outside Belin village on rocky limestone habitat and disturbed areas. Now most of its habitat is gone due to a new Police Station and plantings of conifers which make too much shade.
A small, fragrant (unusual fragrance) with deep red veins on an orange standard with a yellow wing. Happy in shigle areas where it can scramble up sparse vegetation. Neutral soil is fine. Flowers in summer.
Used in international breeding, especially with Dr Keith Hammet here in NZ to introduce a yellow pigment. He sells the peas too.
Philip Smith O2 Landscapes has been there before me. He has a blog post on this, look it up as he always finds something interesting about the plants covered. Also he takes better pictures! (the second and third image). Thanks Philip!
