A monotypic genus, that is only one species found in parts of Greece and Bulgaria on North facing (cool) cliffs. Common names include Orpheus flower and resurrection plant because of the remarkable ability to survive very long periods of desiccation. One was dry in a herbarium for three years, and once watered it came to life! Best in a trough or rock garden where you can see it, this evergreen perennial has lovely leaves and in summer flower in mauve, but they can also come in shades of white and pink. It has the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit.
I have mine in a trough facing east under the eaves and it flowers every year. Note the primula leaves at the top.The trough also homes a happy Raymonda myconi. It is slow growing, might be better with a bit more light, but mot too hot.
