China, Mongolia. Kansu or Grass-Leaved Gentian. A very easy to grow, hardy one that flowers in late summer. Rich blue, tubular, often with a pale throat. Willowy, lance-shaped small leaves. Thriving in moist (but not wet), acidic (woodland or neutral, NOT limey) soils in sun to part shade, making it a lovely addition to rock gardens, troughs and borders. It prefers well-drained soil and full sun to partial shade, it will flower better than in part shade. It may self sow slightly near the mother plant but is not at all invasive. Once established it seems to be long lived and undemanding. 20-25cm Pots of small plants rearing to go. |
