Gaultheria miqueliana

An evergreen shrub 50-60cm high. The young shoots at first are downy but becoming glabrous and bright green, but turning a strong red in autumn and winter. Solitary white flowers in December are drooping, up to six on a racemes.  The white or pink tinged  berries are edible.

Native of Japan and a handsome small evergreen both as regards flowers and fruits. It is quite hardy. It received an Award of Merit
