Connoisseurs' bulb.

The Chocolate Lily is a showy bulbous perennial with sturdy stems clothed in lance-shaped, glossy deep-green leaves. They are campanulate, brown-blackish blooms. These are borne in multiples at the stem tips with as many as 20 flowers some say, opening in rapid succession until all are open. I fear our introductions were all a bit more sedate but they stll put on a good show. It grows to 20-30 cm. The easiest of Fritillaries to grow in the garden especially since it just spreads itself around by seeding. Light woodland or a sunnier spot.

Obviuosly from Kamschatka in Russia but it is a pan global species found in Asia including Japan, and North America
