A beauty for a trough as a foil for fritillarias and other bulbs.
A spreading, rhizomatous perennial with needle-like, bluish green leaves and yellow-green flowering bracts, often turning orange in poor soil which is very attractive. Dormant over winter, but a lovely autumnal look =before it disappears in colder areas. The above-ground stems and feathery leaves die back entirely during the cold months, leaving no visible foliage until they re-shoot from underground roots and rhizomes in early spring. Makes very lovely ground cover that can help support floppy bulbs like some fritillaria, and then shield their dying foliage in pots or wilder areas. Perfect in the garden, BUT it can be invasive, especially in richer soils, so think before you plant it. Naturally it is a coloniser plant. So very tough and hardy too. Up to 40cm. Sun or part shade.
