A unique buckwheat from the Channel Islands, California, with bright red/pink flower clusters from late spring through to frosts. It is petite and has become a popular landscape plant throughout California. Its rosy-colored flower clusters rise above low-growing foliage and bloom from spring to fall. The flowers attract a variety of pollinators, especially butterflies. After blooming, the seeds provide food for birds. This evergreen shrub is notable for its compact form, growing into a dense mound approximately 30cm tall and spreading up to 90cm. Its small, spoon-shaped leaves are gray-green on top and woolly underneath. Full sun to part shade. Drought tolerant , will only live a few years but replaces itself with seedlings. I hadn't grown this before, but I love it. What a flower and interesting leaves as well.
