A large bulb with 25 cm long leaves in spring and early summer. The flowers are solitary and large popping out of the ground in autumn when little is out, making a blaze of colour.
Easy in light shade or sun if moist while growing. These bulbs are toxic to sheep and rabbits and so are good subjects to naturalise in meadows. If you can get some (sheep that is), the sheep can maintain the grass! Bob L de Berry (recently passed away) at Cambria woods, St Bathans, has naturalised snowdrops to great effect and has also started to naturalise these in deciduous woodlands. Best posted when dormant. Huge to ginormous and large. Bulk up quickly.
