Stout, weeping shrub with flattened green stems, small leaves on shaded shoots, and large, creamy-yellow flowers.
Big flowered broom. NZ native ranked as At Risk–Relict (It is only found now on the Poor Knights in reasonable numbers and a few Coromandel islands. It is a stout woody shrub with flattened green stems (cladodes). Small leaves divided into 2-3 leaflets occur on seedlings or on shaded stems. A marked weeping habit. Flowers are conspicuous for their large size and creamy-yellow colour. Named after the missionary and first bishop of Waiapu, William Williams. It is a coatsal emdemic and thrives in Dunedin Botanic Gardens on the bridge over the Leith, avoid frosts in colder areas by choosing a sheltered spot or it is a worthwhile tub subject.
