Aquilegia oxysepala kansuensis

This one is supposed to have a yellow cup and inward pointing sepals. 

This columbine is a shorter version of A. vulgaris, and some believe it to be a part of the complex. However this is a wonderful garden plant that breeds true, so let it sow about to make graceful clumps. Flowering early, it is short and has both lovely maroon/purple flowers with short spurs and cute little petals set. These are set upon and maroon tinted stems and leaf margins most prominent in spring, so it makes quite a show at all times, largely evergreen here too.
