Androsace strigillosa
Androsace strigillosa
This Himalayan species has much larger leaves in summer than other species. In winter the plant is deciduous and longish stolons loop over the substrate with old brown leaves attached which I find interesting. It has upright stems with a loose umbel of a few flowers on tallish stalks in mid summer. But what makes this highly sought after is the reverse of the petals, seen also in bud, which is a deep, dusky pink, outlined with white.
It has grown well outside for many years in tough conditions, eventually making a wide clump. The photographs show summer foliage.... and the plant in the pot is in winter. Partial shade is best, long lived.
