Allium moly
Allium moly
This lovely bulbous perennial boasts long-lasting blooms and remains ornamental in the garden well into summer. It is edible and its common names are golden or yellow garlic or lily leek. It is unusual among alliums in having bright yellow flowers. It flowers in late November and well into summer, as it flowers the leaves start to die back, so it is pretty and goes well with bulbs in a bulb meadow. It will narturalise gently and is great planted on top of cyclamen that flower and then begin to disappear in September. Following the next round of fritillaria and erythroniums, their golden display is in November and so extends the bulb season with style. They look lovely with the blue/purple Triteleia which starts during their display. Then I tend to let a few annuals take over in my bulb meadow....
